Bookmobile coming to Margaret E. Heggan Library

Overdrive’s Digital Bookmobile National Tour will showcase the free eBook and audiobook download services from public libraries in South Jersey at the Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library in Washington Township on Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Readers of all ages will learn how to download digital books from the library through interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos. A gadget gallery featuring iPhone®, Android tablet, BlackBerry®, NOOK, Sony® Reader, and Kindle® will help visitors discover portable devices that are compatible with the library’s download service.

The Digital Bookmobile is housed inside an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. This 74-foot community outreach vehicle is a high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile. It is equipped with broadband internet-connected PCs, high definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players, all of which help visitors explore their libraries’ download service. Interactive learning stations give visitors an opportunity to search the library’s digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and sample eBooks and audiobooks. Library cardholders can check out and download digital titles anytime, anywhere by visiting their library’s Overdrive website.

The Friends of the Library will hold a Bag Book Sale during the Digital Bookmobile’s visit on Friday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hundreds of used books—children’s and adult’s, fiction and nonfiction—will be available for $2 per bag.
